Day 1: Financial Markets Module Begins After ~10 years building software systems, I'm now building my understanding of financial systems. Today marks the start of Course 1: Financial Markets in my 2-year MSc in Financial Engineering journey at WorldQuant University. What I'll be diving into this module: 1. Professional finance: markets, products, participants, and regulation 2. Mathematics of present and forward values 3. Cash flow discounting and return/volatility calculations 4. Credit risk factors and modeling 5. Market activities: trading, financing, brokering, pricing, hedging, optimizing, and risk management As a software engineer, I'm excited to see how computational thinking intersects with financial theory. The web apps and spreadsheet exercises in this course will be particularly interesting—I'm curious about the underlying algorithms and models. I'll be sharing insights, learnings, and "aha moments" as I progress. If you're in fintech, quantitative finance, or building financial systems, I'd love to connect and learn from your experience. The journey of adding a finance lens to my engineering background starts now. #FinancialEngineering #FinTech #QuantitativeFinance #ContinuousLearning #SoftwareEngineering #Finance #WorldQuantUniversity #MScFE #LearningInPublic
